X Communication Week

From May 29 to 31, the School of Communication of Hemisferios University held the tenth edition of Communication Week. This great event is a tradition within the university, as it brings together special guests and students in various lectures and workshops. This year's central theme was sports and its importance in communication today.

The first day of the meeting was attended by our rector, Diego Jaramillo, who after his opening speech gave way to the different activities. The students enjoyed a presentation on the sports industry by the Programming Manager of Directv Ecuador and Colombia, José Antonio Cárdenas. Following this, Camilo Vaca, CEO of Blanco Models talked about advertising, influencers and social networks. To end the day, the renowned sports journalist and broadcaster, Eduardo Andino, gave a workshop on sports narration.

On the second day of the event, the communication team of the Liga de Quito club gave a conference on the management of the image of a sports team. Later, a panel discussion was organized with Fernanda Vásconez, player and owner of the "Ñañas" Club; Valeria Calderón, trainer and nutrition influencer together with journalist Martha Córdova, on the role of women in sports. Then, Nicolás Gross, CEO of the company ProGolf Ecuador explained how to organize major sporting events. Finally, businessman Juan Carlos Holguín, president of Grupo Link, spoke about entrepreneurship in digital sports platforms.

On the third and last day of the Communication Week, Diego Jaramillo, addressed the topic "Innovate or die". Meanwhile, Sebastián Palacios, Assemblyman and Pan American bicycle racing champion, commented on the Sports Law. Alejandro Arosemena, Digital Commercial Manager of XiY agency and professor at UHemisferios, talked about the new Facebook interface. Afterwards, Diego Pinzón, Director of Bundesliga and MLS in Spanish, gave a videoconference on how the strategic management of communication for sports companies should be. Finally, the students received a workshop on Sports Psychology by David Cifuentes, psychologist and Crossfit specialist.

The main purpose of the agenda of this edition was to discuss topics focused on the advertising and media side of sports today, so that students can apply the knowledge acquired to the new media and digital platforms.
