Hemisferios University is an Ecuadorian institution of higher education, established by law in 2004 and fully framed within the legal system of the State. It is recognized as the intellectual bearer, guarantor and scientific promoter of the richness of our nation and its exceptional cultural, ethnic, geographic, biological and humanistic diversity. It is characterized by forming just and humane people who seek the truth, exercise in the good and, as a result, transform society.
To this end, it strives to always work with academic category and human tone, in an environment of solidarity and kind freedom. It provides highly qualified professionals, capable of adequately meeting the needs of society.
Doctrinal and pastoral formation is the responsibility of the Prelature of Opus Dei, which gives the institution an orientation in Christian values from a profoundly human vision, such as love of freedom, responsible work oriented to the service of society, respect for human dignity and the opinions of others, the defense of life from conception to natural death, the promotion of the family as the primary institution of society, personal and social integration with nature and the environment, appreciation of all cultures, confidence in personal abilities, and the progress of society through a profoundly human vision, to the promotion of the family as the primary institution of society, to personal and social integration with nature and the environment, to the appreciation of all cultures, to trust in personal capacities and to the progress of society through the sciences and the professional practice of individuals and communities.
Because of its Christian orientation and through the genuine exercise of the same, it respects at all times the freedom of thought and teaching, as well as the plurality of approaches, solutions and proposals - personal and group - for the improvement of societies and always in order to adequately safeguard the dignity of the human person, paying attention to the most vulnerable sectors, cultural minorities and underserved communities.
Hemisferios University provides, through quality university education, an integral and holistic formation, with a humanistic perspective and a qualified professional preparation, so that its students can effectively serve the whole society, promoting the common good through their own profession and civic action, performed with human and technical competence, responsibility, ethical, social and solidary sense. It promotes scientific research and the generation of knowledge for the benefit of teaching, innovation and development, favoring those lines of research linked to major contemporary human problems.
Academic life must develop within a climate of responsible freedom, intense intellectual work and open dialogue. This requires, on the part of the members of the university community, a permanent attitude of listening, respect and mutual trust, cooperation and service. The work of linking with society is part of the academic activity of Universidad Hemisferios, which will seek at all times the harmonious coexistence and mutual learning with the various social and cultural sectors, seeking the human development of the most disadvantaged strata: a task that will be carried out in its own way or in collaboration with other institutions of civil society at the national or international level, or the State.

The Hemisferios University professor must stand out for his or her scientific and pedagogical competence and coherence of life; for the fulfillment of his or her duties; and, in general, for his or her willingness to identify with the principles of this Ideology, in a permanent spirit of service and availability. The professors will aspire to leave in their students a lasting educational legacy, not settling for the transmission of content, but to form persons of integrity, awakening in their students a desire for self-improvement, a deep intellectual restlessness and a desire to contribute with their suitable and competent work to the permanent development of society.
Governance at Universidad Hemisferios, both institutional and student, is inspired by the principles of authority understood as service. The university authorities will ensure the exercise of collegial governance, respect for the variety of opinions and the participation of the entire university community, within the framework of legal provisions. The authorities will watch primarily for the full preservation of its identity of service, transmitting - with words and deeds - the principles contained in this Ideology. Through the institutional and student authorities, the entire university community composed of faculty, administrators, administrative staff, students and graduates, must know, respect and assume the values of the educational work contained in this Ideology.
Christian Orientation
Since the founding of Hemisferios University, Christian values have been the guiding principle of its Educational Project. In this sense, the Prelature of Opus Dei belonging to the Catholic Church, formally assumed, since February 11, 2011, the spiritual formation of all those members of the university community, students, faculty, administrators, families and graduates, who freely and voluntarily request doctrinal support, in relation to the search for truth, the defense of life in all its forms, the promotion of the family, the dignity of the human person, and respect for opinions and beliefs, and non-discrimination of individuals for any of their ideological, religious, political and social differences.
