Conversation: Euthanasia, worthy death?

Critical reflection in which we address several perspectives with a panel of experts.

The Hemisferios University was the scene of a dialogue on euthanasia in a discussion organized by the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Health Sciences. The event was attended by renowned experts on the subject, generating an enriching reflection on this delicate topic.

Dr. Paulina Garcia, a specialist in internal medicine, examined bioethical issues and provided a medical perspective that highlighted the complexity of euthanasia. She also stressed the importance of carefully considering the ethical aspects of medical decisions associated with the end of life.

Attorney María de Lourdes Maldonado, founding member of Dignidad & Derecho Ecuador, contributed a valuable legal and social vision to the discussion. The lawyer emphasized that currently, euthanasia is requested even by people with mental problems, generating relevant ethical questions.

Viviana Davalos, M.D., Specialist in Anesthesiology and Resuscitation, highlighted the importance of advance decision planning in the last moments of patients' lives. Dr. Davalos emphasized that this approach provides autonomy to individuals, allowing them to express their wishes and preferences in advance.

The discussion fostered critical reflection on euthanasia and also promoted an open dialogue among the participants, enriching the collective understanding of our community. UHE reiterates its commitment to promote spaces for reflection and exchange of ideas that contribute to the academic and ethical development of its students.
