María del Mar Gallegos, UHE faculty member, participated in an event held as part of International Women's Day.

María del Mar Gallegos, Professor of the UHE School of Law, participated in an important event organized by the National Observatory of Political Participation in commemoration of International Women's Day. On March 10, the event brought together leading professionals in the field of jurisprudence and politics to address the issue of crime prevention through environmental design, with the presence and intervention of the Mayor-elect of the city of Quito, Pabel Muñoz.
During Maria del Mar's presentation, the theme that stood out the most was crime prevention with the application of what criminology has called situational prevention through environmental design, which implies 4 basic principles: i) Natural Surveillance; ii) Natural Access Control, iii) Reinforcement of Affective Bonds and iv) Maintenance of public space.
Here, he stressed the importance of applying these principles to reduce crime rates and increase the perception of security in society. He emphasized the need to work together with the community and the police to achieve a correct and technical implementation of this model.
The event was also attended by prominent women leaders such as Dr. Monica Banegas Cedillo, Director of Fundación Haciendo Ecuador and Executive Director of the National Observatory of Women's Political Participation; Pamela Paredes, President of the Rumiñahui Social Mission; and Mgs. Diana Cruz, Councilwoman-elect.
Undoubtedly, the presence of the UHE demonstrates the importance of the academy in the formation of a more just and equitable world that always seeks to leave a positive mark on society, being the participation of Maria del Mar, a valuable contribution in the search for effective solutions for all.
