UHE advances in the environmental governance model

UHE, through its International Center for Research on Environment and Territory (CIIAT), was part of the second meeting of the multi-stakeholder working group, under commitment 12 of the Second Open Government Action Plan. Reaffirming our commitment to research, collaboration and the search for innovative environmental solutions.

The main objective of these meetings is to advance in the preparation of a draft document that will establish the basis for a new governance model for environmental and water resources information. This seeks to ensure equitable, transparent and democratic access to this information, empowering citizens and facilitating informed decision making.

Environmental governance model

During the meeting, the initial proposal of the governance model was reviewed and enriched, thanks to the valuable contributions of various actors such as the Presidency of the Republic, through the Open Government initiative; Conservation International, Senplades and the Ministry of Environment, Water and Ecological Transition. Together they identified and addressed existing gaps in current information, ensuring that the new model is comprehensive and effective.

In this sense, Uhemiferios, in collaboration with the Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja (UTPL), play a crucial role as academic counterpart of the Ministry of Environment. We seek to guarantee the technical rigor and academic quality of the documents produced, as well as to facilitate the participation of the academic community in this process.

Our participation in this program of great environmental impact has consolidated us as a reference in environmental governance and democratization of information, strengthening the link with the public sector through strategic alliances, promoting applied research to generate scientific knowledge, training professionals committed to sustainable development, and making visible the crucial role of academia in the construction of innovative public policies.

The UHE reaffirms its commitment to sustainability and the democratization of environmental information by contributing to the construction of a new model of environmental governance. This is a fundamental step towards a more sustainable and equitable future for the country we want to live in.
